FLU VACCINATIONS 2024

Updated: Apr 25

Bookings for Flu Vaccinations are now OPEN for our Corio Village, Drysdale and Newtown stores, Peak Pharmacies Geelong.

It’s that time of year again, flu season, and it’s the perfect time to book your flu vaccination. Cases of influenza are already on the rise across Australia, and the flu strains circulating in the community this year are different from last year. In January and February of 2024 there were more than 16,000 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza in Australia. That’s nearly double what was recorded (8,592) for the same period in 2023, and for the 5 years prior!

In most cases, it is safe to receive the flu vaccine with another vaccine – like COVID, and your pharmacist can take care of both.

Why you should book your flu vaccine today

Getting vaccinated is the most effective way to protect yourself and your family.

Your flu vaccination helps protect other people, especially those who are too sick or too young to be vaccinated, and you can help reduce the spread of the virus and prevent serious illness.

Flu vaccines work by stimulating your immune system to produce antibodies that can fight off the virus if you come into contact with it, reducing your risk of getting the flu.

Top tips for flu season from your local community pharmacist

Follow these tips to help prevent the spread of the flu and stay healthy during flu season.

Get vaccinated

The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your community from the flu. It's recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older and your local Peak Pharmacies pharmacist can vaccinate people aged 5 and up (check at your closest Peak Pharmacy for age restrictions).

Practice good hygiene

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and avoid touching your face.

Stay home if you're sick

If you have the flu or flu-like symptoms, stay home from work or school to avoid spreading the virus to others.

Boost your immune system

Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep to help keep your immune system strong.

Treat symptoms early

If you do get the flu, start treatment early with antiviral medication, as it can help reduce the severity and duration of symptoms.

Consult with your pharmacist

Community pharmacists can provide advice on flu prevention, vaccination, and treatment options, and can help you determine if you are at high risk for complications from the flu.

So what are you waiting for? Book your influenza vaccination at your local Peak Pharmacy today!
